popcorn-making

Last week, we planned to have a bbq for 2011 new year celebration. And I was assigned to make the popcorn.

I'd make popcorn before. Just that...I used to POP the corns by microwave oven.
But here (Pekaka 23) has no microwave oven wor, so how nii?

Anyway woodie has an electric oven here.

So we were thinking:
"Are they the same? Can we use the oven to POP the corns...?"
Finally, we decided to pop the corns by using the electric oven. Never try never know ma right? haha..

We put some corns inside a plastic container with the "Microwave safe" label, and heated it at 100°C.
After 5 minutes~~~
ding!
Yeah! We were kind of excited to see the popping result..!

But what we saw is....

the corns remained unpop..

but the lid of the container was melted and became film as shown....

"stupiak" mistake 1.. (>.<)
OKAY...no pain no gain ma..so we had our second trial. We found another container which is harder and also with the label of "Microwave SAFE".

The story ended up with...

"stupiak" mistake 2.. (T.T)
To conclude, this is the result of being stubborn.... ~(T.T)~

By the way, at last we still managed to make quite a big batch of popcorn just by using saucepan. It could be an alternative method to pop the corns for those who don't have a microwave oven.

ten ten ten ten! popped popcorn coated with caramel+butter, ready for eating!
Yum yum~
Lessons learned:
  1. Microwave oven ≠ electric oven. Therefore the microwave safe container not really safe to be used in the electric oven o!
  2. 232°C (450°F) temperature needed to pop corn instead of 100°C as aforementioned.
  3. Saucepan could be a good method as well to make popcorn with no burnt kernels.
Hahaha..happy new year to all of you!
